Frequently Asked Questions About our Saliva COVID Testing

What Are the Different Types of COVID-19 Tests?

There are two main types of tests for COVID-19: PCR tests, which detect viral RNA, and antigen tests (also known as rapid tests), which detect specific proteins on the surface of the virus. While PCR tests take longer than antigen tests, they are more accurate. Saliva tests can be either PCR or antigen. Rover Labs combines the comfort of saliva tests with the reliability of PCR.

Are Saliva Tests Just as Effective as Nasal Swabs at Diagnosing COVID-19?

Yes. Rover Labs’ saliva test is an RT-PCR test, which is the most accurate type of COVID test—the gold standard for infectious disease diagnosis. We utilize the  Advanta™ Dx SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Assay on the Fluidigm®Biomark™ HD system. This system meets the same rigorous standards as other FDA-approved RT-PCR test systems.

How is the Sample for the COVID-19 Saliva Test Collected?

Test recipients collect a small (dime-sized) amount of their own saliva into a vial with a funnel. Then they remove the funnel, replace it with a cap, and put it into a sealed plastic bag for processing.

How Does Rover Labs Collect My Organization's Saliva Test Samples?

First, Rover Labs sends the sample collection kits to your location. Your test recipients provide their saliva samples through a fast and simple self-collection process. Then we arrange for the samples to be picked up and delivered to our lab for processing.

Does Saliva Self-Collection Require Supervision?

Supervision of the saliva self-collection is recommended, but supervisors do not need medical experience. Rover Labs can provide a quick training to your designated internal supervisor(s) or supply you with its own supervisor(s). Our support team will be readily available to answer any questions.

How are Saliva-Based COVID Test Results Delivered?

Test results are securely delivered via text message or email directly to your test recipients' smartphones via our proprietary cloud-based application. All they need to do is click on a link to see their results. There's no need to download an app or remember a password. If the test recipients are minors, results can be sent to the phone of a parent or guardian.

How Quickly are COVID Test Results Delivered?

Test results are delivered within 24-48 hours of the sample's arrival at our lab.

What Organizations Does Rover Labs Serve?

Rover Labs COVID testing is ideal for any organization that requires large-scale and efficient testing, such as schools of all types, offices, unions, travel hubs, entertainment venues, production crews, and more.

How Young Can Test Recipients Be?

Rover Labs can test children as young as two years old.

How Long Will Saliva Samples Stay Stable For Accurate Testing?

We aim to process samples as quickly as possible, but in the event of transportation delays due to weather or other uncontrollable circumstances, samples will remain viable for up to five days and do not require refrigeration.
